Her Royal Highness's Traditional Yuletide Service of Carols Pays Tribute to Community Volunteers

Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her annual Christmas carol concert at the historic Abbey, with guests including members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have supported their local areas.

The sizable congregation will hear a blend of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from performers including Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Centred Around Kindness and Compassion

The theme of the service, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on Friday, is kindness and showing love to others.

Attending the event are Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose child passed away from a brain tumour, and who established a foundation, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to support families who have a terminally ill child.

"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often discreetly and without words, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an extraordinary difference to the circumstances of individuals," the Princess expressed in a note prior to the festive gathering.

Carefully Paced Reappearance

The princess has been making her own steady comeback to official duties after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, recently giving her initial major address in two years, in which she reflected on recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".

Performance and Potential

Guests arriving at the Abbey can listen to young musicians backed by the Future Talent charity, set up with the help of the former royal to increase availability of music lessons.

An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who performs on the trumpet and is from Wales, has been supported by the organisation, with funding assisting with equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "incredible" to be playing at tonight's service.

"Pursuing music is often costly," she stated. She is now enrolled at the prestigious music academy, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to develop their musical skills.

A Family Affair

Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who performs on the brass instrument, will likewise attend the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many important people," she said.

Attending the service will be people from various age groups.

That will encompass Saphia Turner, aged nine, recipient of a youth community award, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to generate funds for local food charities.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been adorned with custom-created holiday decorations, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.

The musical lineup includes Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, the Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "a dream come true."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be broadcast on a major network on Christmas Eve.
